On June 11 the Head of Armenia-Iran Friendship Group Vahram Baghdasaryan, the members of teh Group Artak Zakaryan, Koryun Nahapetyan and Volodya Badalyan met with the Head of Iran-Armenia Friendship Group of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Kaeidi, members of the Group Robert Beglarian, Karen Khanlari, Yonathan Bet Kolia, Ghasem Ahmadi Lashak and Shahla Mir Galoy Bayat who had arrived in Armenia on a four-day visit.

Welcoming the guests the Head of Armenia-Iran Friendship Group Vahram Baghdasaryan highlighted the development and rapprochement of the relations of the two brotherly relations, noting that in this issue the Friendship Groups of the two parliaments can have an essential role. Vahram Baghdasaryan has thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for being next to the Armenian people on the days of the Armenian Genocide Centennial and expressing condolence. In that context he has emphasized the necessity of condemning genocides, expressing conviction that if the Genocide perpetrated at the beginning of the 20^th century was condemned, in future genocides would not occur.

In this context he President informed that the RA National Assembly initiated to create an inter-parliamentary platform of international cooperation “Parliaments against Genocides,” and an appeal is made to the parliaments of the world also to create similar platforms in their parliaments, taking into consideration that the parliaments can have their role in the prevention of genocides. Vahram Baghdasaryan expressed hope that Iran would also join the initiative.

In their remarks the members of teh Group Artak Zakaryan, Koryun Nahapetyan deemed necessary the strengthening of cooperation with the format of cooperation of the Friendship Groups and cooperation and the mutual visits.

During the meeting the sides touched upon the issue of the NK problem, emphasized the development of the economic relations, the mutual recognition and contacts of the friendly peoples.

The Head of the Iran-Armenia Friendship Group Ali Kaeidi also considered necessary the mutual contacts at different levels and expressed hope that the Friendship Groups will actively take part in that issue. In the NK problem Ali Kaeidi noted the balance position of the IRI and expressed hope that it would be regulated through negotiations and in accordance with international standards.

Ali Kaeidi informed his Armenian counterparts about the significant achievements of the IRI in the spheres of health care and nano-technologies. He invited his Armenian colleagues to Iran to get acquainted with the achievements on the spot and discuss issues of common interest.
